STAFF and children at Chilmark and Fonthill Bishop Primary School have welcomed a new headteacher.

Karen Kearney, previously acting and assistant headteacher at Hurstbourne Tarrant Primary School in Hampshire, has taken over the role from Amanda Brockway, now at Broad Chalke School.

Mrs Kearney said she was thrilled with her new appointment.

She said: “My focus is to work with the pupils, staff, parents and governors to build on the outstanding successes of the school. “My teaching experience has led me to develop a strong belief that children learn best when they are having fun and are engaged in practical, real life activities.”

She added: “I also believe that strong relationships with parents and the wider community are vital in ensuring that children are supported as they move through their school life.”

The school is ranked as one of the top primary schools in the county, with all year 6 students at the school achieving level 4 or above in English and maths for the second year running.

Its tag rugby team are currently training hard for the county finals at the end of the term.
