New vicar for Harnham
9:37am Monday 14th January 2013 in News By Corey Ross
Becky Roberts
HARNHAM parish is welcoming a new vicar after more than a year without one.
The Rev Becky Roberts will be instituted as the new vicar of Harnham at a ceremony led by the Bishop of Salisbury to be held at St George’s Church tomorrow.
Rev Roberts trained at Queens Theological Foundation in Birmingham and spent her curacy within the Chelmsford diocese before returning to Hampshire.
Before ordination training she took a post graduate certificate in education and taught from 1993 to 2000 in east London and with the Church Mission Society in Tanzania. She also led youth missions in Uganda and Egypt.
Rev Roberts takes over from long-serving incumbent Canon David Scrace, who retired in November 2011.
About 200 people are expected to attend the ceremony so the event is by invitation and ticket only, but anyone who wants to meet the new vicar can do so at her first services on January 20.
