SPLURGE guns, custard pies, gangsters and dames are taking over at Avon Valley College this week.

Students at the Durrington school are donning their spats and flapper gear to bring to life popular stage show Bugsy Malone, and staff haven’t shied away from authenticity.

“We have got the splurge guns and the custard pies,” said head of Sixth Form Sue Lucas. “It could get a bit messy but it’s a really good one to do.

“Everyone has worked really hard on it,” she added.

About 80 youngsters are involved in the show, from treading the boards to behind the scenes and costume design, with students from Year 7 through to the Sixth Form.

The show opens tomorrow with a performance for local primary school children during the day and then the opening night.

There will be also be performances on Thursday and Friday. Tickets are £5, with concessions, and are available from the school.
