Maltings development plan agreed

A DEVELOPMENT plan has been agreed for Salisbury’s Maltings and Central Car Park.

The agreement, between Wiltshire Council and Stanhope Plc, enables the developer to continue its work on the project and carry out further consultation before submitting a detailed planning application.

Stanhope director Gary Bourne said: “The signing of the development agreement represents another important milestone in the process of delivering the redevelopment of The Maltings and Central Car Park.

“It provides further clarity and stability, and means that Stanhope can continue to move forward in partnership with Wiltshire Council.

“Stanhope is incredibly excited by this once-in-a-generation opportunity and absolutely committed to delivering a step change in Salisbury’s retail and leisure offer, which will drive growth and benefit the whole city.”

The retail-led scheme is expected to include restaurants, shops and other leisure facilities.

More than 1,000 visitors attended an exhibition held by the developer in December, providing feedback on the proposals, and another is planned for later this year.

Mr Bourne said: “Early feedback has been encouraging and the majority of people said that they support the evolving proposals on display.”

While the two exhibitions form the centrepieces of the pre-application consultation, dialogue with a range of stakeholders such as business organisations and community groups is ongoing.

The development agreement was agreed by Wiltshire Council’s Cabinet today.
