Fulfilling a lifelong dream to climb tallest spire
IT was a dream come true for Salisbury Cathedral’s new clerk of works as he scaled Britain’s tallest spire on Tuesday.
Gary Price fulfilled a lifetime ambition to reach the top of the 123-metre spire to inspect the fixings ahead of the installation of a new wind speed meter later this year.
He said: “I have looked up at the spire at least ten times a day for the whole of my working life, but it wasn’t until 11am on Tuesday that I knew for certain my lifelong ambition of 26 years was finally going to come true, to climb the highest medieval structure in the world, something that most people can only dream about.”
