A CANCER patient had the wrong testicle removed in an operation at Salisbury District Hospital.
The man, who has not been named, is now taking legal action against Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust, as it is thought he can no longer father a child.
A hospital spokesman said: “This is a regrettable incident and the trust once again offers its sincere apologies to the patient.
“Remedial surgery took place at the time and the patient was informed straight after the completion of surgery of the situation and that additional surgery had taken place to rectify this.”
He confirmed the trust had received notification of legal action. The incident took place in June and the trust said it has since carried out a thorough investigation and made changes to its processes.
It said the patient, believed to be 48, was kept fully informed of the progress regarding the investigation and the full report has been shared with him.
