Get pampered for a good cause
WOMEN who would like some pampering in the name of a good cause are being invited to come along to an event being held in Durrington.
Stacey Voce, who was diagnosed with cervical cancer two years ago when she was just 24 years old, is holding the event to raise money for the Institute of Cancer Research.
Miss Voce, who lives in Amesbury, is taking part in next month’s London Marathon for the charity and hopes to further boost the amount she raises through the pamper evening.
She said: “I missed a place through the ballot entry for the marathon so I picked three charities that meant something to me and applied to them, and I was really glad to get a place for the Institute of Cancer Research.”
Miss Voce had already taken part in the Cancer Research UK Race for Life several times before her illness, and had run in the race just a week before she was diagnosed with the disease in 2011.
She went through six weeks of gruelling chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment and after being given the all clear decided she wanted to step up her fundraising and take on a marathon.
“I’ve never run 26 miles in my life,” she said. “But I’m training as hard as I can and I’m sure it’ll be fun.”
The pampering evening is £5 to enter, on the door or by calling 07912 363430, and will offer a range of treatments from eyebrow threading and manicures to massages.
There will be about 20 stands and a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.
The evening will be held at the Vanessa Chilvers Dance Studio from 7pm to 10pm on Friday, March 15.
