Amesbury history book reprinted
A BOOK detailing the history of Amesbury has been re-issued due to increased interest in the town’s past.
The Amesbury Society has reprinted Amesbury: History and Description of a South Wiltshire Town.
The book was written by John Chandler and Peter Goodhugh in 1989 but went out of print two years later.
The new edition has a foreword outlining discoveries made in Amesbury and changes to the town since 1991 and also contains photographs and postcards illustrating how Amesbury has developed over time.
Amesbury Society chairman Norman Parker said: “There has long been a demand for a good narrative history of Amesbury and this demand has increased with the expansion of the town in the last 20 years and the large number of new residents.
“Recent discoveries, especially from the Blick Mead archaeological dig, which has shown that settlement in Amesbury goes back many thousands of years, have also resulted in growing interest in the history of Amesbury.”
The book is available for £9.50 from Cross Keys Bookshop in Salisbury, Amesbury Museum and the Amesbury community and visitor centre.
