Good Ofsted report for St Nicholas'
CHILDREN, staff and governors at St Nicholas’ Primary School in Porton are celebrating a good rating from Ofsted.
The school was judged by inspectors as good with outstanding features, after their visit on February 21.
The report said: “Pupils’ behaviour is exemplary. They have highly positive attitudes to learning and make every effort to improve their work.”
Inspectors also commented that pupils work hard and achieve well, and that teaching is good with outstanding elements that help raise attainment throughout the school.
Headteacher David Rolfe said: “The wide range of all our pupils’ needs are met through a cohesive, enthusiastic and totally committed team of teachers, support staff and governors.”
And chairman of governors Geoff Freeth said: “We are delighted with this result, which is a fitting reward for all the hard work and dedication of the whole school family and it is particularly pleasing that the behaviour of our pupils has received the recognition it deserves.”
To improve further, the report said teachers in reception need to provide more challenging outdoor play activities for maths calculation.
It also said the school needs to ensure teachers’ introductions are not too long so pupils begin to work on their own more promptly, and to check that teaching assistants do not do too much for lower attaining pupils.
