SALISBURY Chamber of Commerce and Salisbury Rotary Club are offering motorists the chance to find out what sort of top speed their cars can achieve driven somewhere not subject to the 70mph legal limit.

They’ve jointly organised a charity track day at Castle Combe motor-circuit near Chippenham on Thursday, August 29. The organisers hope to raise more than £1500 for Wessex Heartbeat and WellyWalk - the Salisbury-based charity that supports children suffering from cancer.

Cars already booked vary widely in age, style and performance. So far they range from a 1947 Bentley Special, Aston Martin DB9 and AC Cobra to family saloons and a Fiat Punto. Hot laps will be available for anyone who’d prefer to be driven round the circuit by an expert. Spectators are welcome and admission is free, although it is hoped they’ll wish to make a charitable donation.

Rotarian Ian Hunter, organiser, says he expects the event to be fully subscribed.

“This is a great opportunity to explore the limits of your car and improve your driving skills in a safe and controlled environment. We hope to have a very wide range of vehicles at the circuit, and qualified instructors will be on hand to provide help and guidance for those who have never been before.”

Anyone wishing to take part should contact Ian Hunter on 01722 327427 or mail ian.hunter@quayalterntives.co.uk. Numbers are limited, so booking early is advisable.
