Wiltshire gets walking
HUNDREDS of people took part in the Get Wiltshire Walking challenge over the summer.
Wiltshire Council arranged the walks to encourage people to explore the county and increase their activity levels.
The events were sponsored by one or two of the local walking groups within Get Wiltshire Walking, and they were responsible for producing a safe and effective long and short walk for their area.
Venues included Avebury, Wylye Valley, Cricklade and Westbury White Horse, and those who took part could choose a longer walk of five miles or a shorter route of up to four miles.
Jonathon Seed, Wiltshire Council’s cabinet member for leisure, said: “These walks are a wonderful way for people to enjoy Wiltshire’s beautiful countryside and the company of other walkers.
“These walks are not possible without the support of our volunteer walk leaders and they have been instrumental in marking out the routes for the series of five iconic walks and leading them this summer.”
