Ancient farm trip for Leehurst pupils
THERE was a taste of ancient times for pupils from Leehurst Swan school on a recent school trip.
Youngsters in Year 4 visited Butser Ancient Farm, and experimental archaeological site in the South Downs National Park.
The children explored what life was like in Britain during the Iron Age and Roman times.
They were shown how to make Celtic jewellery, carve chalk with flint and use crushed leaves for colour. They built walls using a mixture of crushed chalk, water and earth and then experienced what it was like to live in a Roundhouse complete with its smoky fire.
And they also enjoyed feeding the rare breed pigs with apple cores saved from their lunch.
