St John Save a Life campaign in The Maltings
LIFESAVING lessons were on offer in Salisbury on Saturday as St John Ambulance volunteers gave demonstrations of five, easy to follow first aid techniques in The Maltings.
The initiative was part of the charity’s annual Save a Life September (SALS) campaign and members of the public were also given free, pocket-sized first aid guides to carry in case of emergency.
Research carried out by St John Ambulance before the campaign showed that up to 140,000 people – more than three times the population of Salisbury – die every year in situations where first aid could have given them the chance to live.
Volunteer Rupert Afford said: “Learning first aid is one of the single most important things you can do in your life.
“With basic first aid skills, anyone can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved and what could be more important than saving someone’s life?” To find out more about St John Ambulance events in your area visit sja.org.uk/sals.
