Running for charity at Godolphin
THESE schoolgirls definitely demonstrated they have a big heart when they took part in a 5k run in aid of charity.
The 300 pupils taking part from Godolphin School in Salisbury went the distance to raise money for Wessex Heartbeat, the charity for young people with heart conditions based at Southampton General Hospital.
The run started with a zumba warm-up and the athletes were waved off by Alison Farrell, chief executive of Wessex Heartbeat.
Melissa Corbin, the school’s head of charities, said there had been real enthusiasm for the run - particularly as it was conducted in lesson time. One pupil had raised £160 and a group of five girls had been roped together to run the course, which went around Laverstock Downs.
Ms Corbin said: “The girls came back full of joy and there were a lot favourable comments from teachers, so it was very successful. This is the first time we have done it in about a dozen years and we may make it a more regular event.” About £700 has been raised so far.
