Clare runs for hospice in memory of mother
A TEAM of runners will be supporting Salisbury Hospice by taking part in the Great South Run later this month.
And many of those will be running for a reason close to their heart.
Clare Hillier, 23, from Shipton Bellinger, will run in memory of her mother Jill, who died in May aged 55, and was given the best possible care at the hospice.
Miss Hillier said: “It is one of the most difficult things in life to be told that somebody you love is ill beyond cure. Unfortunately that was the case for my mum who lost her battle with cancer in May.
“I remember seeing her in hospital when the outlook was bleak and she had lost all her spark and zest for life. The nurses were desperately trying to get her a bed at the Hospice, which at the time I didn't think would make much difference. I was wrong.
“I went to visit her the next day at the hospice and she was sitting up with some of her spark back. The nurses were running around at her beck and call getting whatever she needed and making sure she was as comfortable as possible.
“Mum got the help she so much deserved. She loved to help people too, which is why I am running 10 miles for Salisbury Hospice”.
