New apple orchard for Durrington

Salisbury Journal: New apple orchard for Durrington New apple orchard for Durrington

DURRINGTON has a new apple orchard, thanks to Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and the Heritage Lottery Fund.

A group of allotment holders helped to plant 30 traditional Wiltshire apple trees as the villagers feel it is very important that Wiltshire apples are grown locally. The wildlife trust donated the trees and the project was financed by the lottery fund.

Old apple trees were grafted onto new root stock in 2010 and grown on for planting this year. Durrington Town Council, which is running the project, will be juicing the apples from the trees when they mature.
