A WILTSHIRE author has produced a book packed with quirky and unusual facts about the county.
The pocket-sized guide to Wiltshire has more than 190 pages of little-known and fascinating facts, such as 13 per cent of crimes committed in Wiltshire between 1697 and 1820 were for swearing and 20 million gas masks were produced by Avon Rubber Co in Melksham during the Second World War.
The book helps the reader discover more about the county’s famous and often infamous men and women, its towns and countryside, history, natural history, literary, artistic and sporting achievements.
Author Dee La Vardera, from Calne, is a former English teacher and has written a number of books about Wiltshire as well as writing for the Guardian, The Lady, My Weekly, Farmer’s Weekly, Wiltshire Life and Wiltshire Magazine.
The Little Book of Wiltshire is priced £9.99 and available at book stores and online.
