RESIDENTS at a Salisbury care home have been crowned Star Bakers in the final of a national Christmas-themed bake off competition.

A resident and chef team from Salisbury Manor care home in Wilton Road competed against nine other Gracewell Healthcare homes at the national finals in Basingstoke.

Each team chose their recipe from the theme of ‘decades’ - their Grandma’s traditional recipe from the 1950s or their favourite gingerbread house from the 1970s.

The Salisbury Manor resident team were highly commended.

Team member Yvonne Cowlan said: “Our bake was an eggless fruit cake inspired by the 1940s and the rationing period during the war. It was great fun to bake again. I used to make Christmas cakes every year.”

The Salisbury Manor chef team, headed by James Butterfield and Chris Guy also won highly commended with their Christmas parcel-themed bake.
