TISBURY library is to open on Saturday mornings for the first time in January.

The library, which was threatened with closure two years ago, is run solely by a group of about 30 volunteers. The current opening hours are 2pm to 7pm on Mondays, 10am to 1pm on Wednesdays and 10am to 7pm on Fridays.

But from January 4 the library will close at 5pm on Fridays and open on Saturdays from 10am until noon instead. Felicity Corp, volunteer coordinator, said: “We will be opening for the first time ever on Saturday mornings and we are only the third voluntary library to do this.

“Tisbury comes alive on Saturday mornings so we felt that because a lot of people pass the library it might encourage them to come in.

“We found there were only a handful of people coming into the library after about 5pm on Fridays, and we will still have one evening opening, on Mondays.”
