FLOOD alerts have been issued for many parts of south Wiltshire as more heavy rain is expected later today.

The Environment Agency has issued a flood warning for areas near the River Blackwater, around Landford.

People living nearby are urged to be prepared as 10mm to 20mm of rain is expected.

Less serious warnings are in force for the River Avon between Upavon and Salisbury, the River Wylye and tributaries between Wilton and Norton Ferris, and the River Ebble between Alvediston and Nunton.

The River Nadder from Donhead St Mary to Salisbury could burst its banks following 35mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, with a further 10mm to 15mm expected to fall later today.

In the Cranborne Chase area springs have broken and groundwater is rising, especially in Bishopstone, Braemore, Britford, Broad Chalke, Chilmark, Downton, Fordingbridge, Mere and Sixpenny Handley. For more information and updates, visit environment-agency.gov.uk.
