FUNDRAISERS in Salisbury braved torrential rain and howling winds on New Year’s Day to take part in a charity wheelbarrow race.

The event was organised by Chris Warren and Claire Goodwin, in memory of their son Harvey, who died on July 23 when he was just nine weeks and three days old.

They set up the Harvey Warren Trust to raise funds in his name for charities associated with babies and children and SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).

Bad weather might have put a lot of people off, but brave friends and family from as far as Ascot, Plymouth and London faced the elements in honour of little Harvey.

Mr Warren said: “People turned out despite the weather and we had a really good laugh. We only did two laps rather than three but it was a fun way to kick off 2014. By the end we were all helping each other out.”

The race was won by Scooby Doo, with Inspector Clouseau, the Pink Panther and Cato Fong scooping the best dressed team prize. So far about £140 has been raised but people can still donate at harveywarrentrust.co.uk through Paypal.

Mr Warren hopes to make the race annual event and the planning is already underway for the next fundraiser, a Hike for Harvey along the Clarendon Way on May 17, the closest Saturday to Harvey’s birthday on May 19.
