PSYCHOLOGISTS at Salisbury District Hospital are looking for more volunteers to help provide social stimulation for older patients.
The team is expanding its award-winning Engage programme and has launched a recruitment drive to encourage more people to help out.
Volunteers spend time with patients over the age of 65, keeping them mentally active with the help of discussion groups, quizzes, conversation and memory games.
The project runs across 12 wards and helps to alleviate anxiety, depression and loss of independence among elderly hospital patients.
With more volunteers it is hoped the Engage scheme can be introduced on every ward.
Information sessions will run on Wednesday, February 5 between 10am and noon and Friday, February 7 between 2pm and 4pm. To find out more or book a place contact psychology co-ordinator Tora Mathias-Jones on 01722 425105 or engage@salisbury.nhs.uk.
