MORE than 300 hospital staff attended an exhibition reflecting on the history of Salisbury District Hospital to mark its 21st anniversary.

Videos, photographs and memorabilia charting the history of the former Salisbury Infirmary in Fisherton Street and the move to the Odstock site which was completed on January 22 1993, were viewed by current staff and former employees.

Hospital chief executive Peter Hill and chairman Nick Marsden toasted the future success of the hospital and there was a celebratory menu for patients and diners in the Springs Restaurant.

“This was a wonderful day with so many members of staff past and present coming along to see the wide range of photographs, videos and memorabilia from the current day, right back to the early days of healthcare in Salisbury,” said Mr Hill.

“It was great to see so many faces from our past mingling with staff from today, reminiscing and enjoying the spirit of the occasion. I believe that Salisbury is a very special place to work and while this gave us an opportunity to look back on past achievements, it also gave us a chance to celebrate the hospital of today and look forward to future success.” A small selection of photographs and memorabilia is already on display in the level 3 and 4 corridors of the main hospital building and it is hoped that parts of the exhibition will be taken out to the public later in the year. In April there will be an open day for NHS Foundation Trust members which will showcase the work that takes place across the hospital and celebrate the achievements of staff.
