A BIG Lottery-funded project is marking another milestone as one of its groups celebrates its first birthday.

Wiltshire Council’s Get Wiltshire Walking project provides short health walks across the county through free walking groups led by trained walk leaders.

The Ludgershall group recently celebrated its first birthday as 20 members braved the freezing fog to be led round the area by trained volunteer leader Steve Williams.

The group’s first walk was canceleed when heavy snow fell last year, but since then they have persevered in atrocious weather and have not cancelled a single weekly walk.

After their walk, members go to The Crown pub where landlady Jeanette Cummins serves coffee and biscuits. She refuses to accept payment and asks them to donate to Help for Heroes or Macmillan Cancer Support instead. So far the group have donated £500 to the two charities.
