A SUPPORT group for people with phobias or obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is being set up in Salisbury. The group is being run by Triumph over Phobia (TOP UK) which already has ten similar groups offering support to hundreds of people across the country.

The sessions offer cognitive behaviour therapy to help sufferers overcome phobias and OCD. Trilby Breckman, development manager for the charity, said: “The groups meet once a week in a warm and supportive environment and we can help anyone it doesn’t matter what their fear is – they’re all worrying and they all feel the same.”

“Ten per cent of the population have a phobia at any one time and two or three per cent have OCD,” she said.

“Often when you have a phobia you don’t think anybody else feels the same way as you, but they do.”

People who attend the sessions get given a goal each week to gradually help them overcome their fears. The charity is appealing for volunteers to come forward to run a weekly group in Salisbury, with full training provided.
