FREEMASONS have handed over £1,460 to the Salisbury branch of the Alzheimer’s Society.

John Hughes, worshipful master and president of East Knoyle’s Lodge of Innocence and Morality – part of the United Grand Lodge - presented a cheque representing money members have fundraised.

He said: “We focus a significant proportion of our time each year on fundraising.

“I was really pleased at how well our events for Alzheimer’s Society were supported, in true Grand Lodge tradition.

“The fund is going to such a good cause. I have known the staff in Brown Street for many years, and have witnessed their great efforts and success in helping people with dementia, including a close member of my family.

The society’s dementia support manager Julia Burton said: “We are truly amazed and delighted to receive this very generous cheque from John and his friends in East Knoyle. It will contribute enormously to furthering our fight against dementia.”
