PRIMARY school pupils gathered at Sarum Academy in Salisbury to mark Chinese New Year and the arrival of the Year of the Horse.

They took part in an art day based on the theme of this colourful Chinese festival, which was celebrated on January 31.

The children learned to fold paper into fan shapes and decorate them with Chinese patterns and writing, and they also made Chinese dragon puppets, like those used in festivals such as the dragon boat race.

And they also had the opportunity to make a Lucy Chinese bag, a lucky goldfish to decorate the bag and a paper fortune cookie, on which pupils wrote a fortune for another pupil to take home in their bag.
