THE Mayflower Theatre in Southampton is welcoming applications for this year’s summer youth project. The theatre is running a project called Five of the Best: A Celebration of 50 Years of Musicals at Mayflower Theatre, from July 28 to August 9.

It follows the success of last year’s production of Bugsy Malone. Michael Ockwell, chief executive, said: “Building on the success of Bugsy Malone last year, we are all really looking forward to working with the very best young talent in the area yet again.

"This will be a unique show containing scenes from a number of the biggest musicals over the past 50 years to tie in with the celebration of Southampton’s 50 years with city status. Get your applications in now; it is going to be a great summer.”

As The Lion King is taking residence at the theatre over the summer, the youth production and rehearsals will take place at a venue in central Southampton yet to be announced.

Applications to audition are due in within the next two weeks, and auditions will take place on March 9.

The project is open to young people aged 11 to 18 at the time of the project, and all participants must be available for the whole project. The fee is £150 with a reduction for siblings to £125. For more information and to complete and online registration form, visit mayflower.org.uk/syp.asp.
