DRESSED as Victorian school children, Year 2 pupils at Leehurst Swan School stepped back in time.

The youngsters went to visit a Victorian school and walked through Sevington village to the sound of the school bell ringing. They lined up in separate lines for boys and girls and walked in silence into the schoolroom.

Lessons lasted all morning with no playtime, and the children wrote on slates and with ink pens in their copybooks. The boys had a science lesson while the girls were instructed in household matters - washing the clothes in the wash house and polishing the brass.

After lunch, Miss Squires went through the different punishments given out for wrong doing, from wearing the dunce’s hat to the cane.
