HIGH winds and rain storms lashed across south Wiltshire last night causing damage and delays.
Rush hour traffic around Salisbury was brought to a standstill as flood water reached the A36 Southampton Road.
The fire brigade was brought in to pump out the water so that vehicles could get through the huge puddles more easily but there were still long queues.
Several trees have fallen and emergency services are warning motorists and pedestrians to take care. The road through Lake in the Woodford Valley is shut due to a fallen tree and a tree has partially fallen across the road near Newbridge Roundabout in Salisbury. Roads were closed in Cholderton, Stratford-sub-Castle and Idmiston due to flooding overnight.
A Wiltshire Council spokesman said the River Nadder reached its highest level last night but there were “no major incidents.”
The council is continuing to work closely with the Met Office and Environment Agency while the flood warning remains in place.
