A SALISBURY-BASED charity was featured in a new Channel 5 documentary.
Hope and Homes for Children helped Sky Sports FI presenter Natalie Pinkham in her documentary A Home for Mirela, a film about her bid to build a new home and prevent a group of Romanian orphans being put into state-run institutions.
The documentary, which was due to air last night, sees Pinkham return to Romania to attempt to raise £187,000 to build a new home and establish family-based care for a group of children.
Pinkham is a patron of Hope and Homes for Children, which is committed to closing every children’s institution in the world. The charity started working in Romania in 1999, when there were 100,000 children in state-run institutions. Partly due to its work, there are now only 9,000 children still in institutions.
With the support of the charity, the Romanian government has committed to closing all the remaining institutions by 2020.
The documentary will be available to view on Demand 5.
