A NEW support group set up for people with blood diseases has set a date for its first meeting.

The Haematology Support Group will meet for the first time on April 3 at the Methodist Church in St Edmund’s Church Street, and organiser Rowena Ingram is keen to get as many people along as possible.

The first meeting will aim to find out what people would like and support a buddy system with survivors going into hospital to talk to patients.

People with blood diseases such as leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma often have to spend long periods in hospital, usually in isolation, and talking to someone who has been through the same thing can be very helpful.

The new group is funded by Salisbury District Hospital’s Stars Appeal Pembroke Unit Fund and supported by Macmillan Cancer Support.

The meeting will start at 6pm.
