A WOMAN from Salisbury has been ordered to pay costs of almost £300 for the illegal dumping of waste.

Kim Light, 40, had stockpiled a large number of black bags and other items of household waste in the garden of her Pinewood Way home.

She told magistrates she was approached by a man who offered to clear the waste away for £20.

The waste was later illegally deposited at Hare Warren, Netherhampton.

Light pleaded guilty to a waste offence in relation to an unauthorised person collecting household waste from her home address.

Householders are responsible for ensuring that their rubbish is only passed on to authorised waste carriers, and Light admitted not having checked the man was authorised.

She was fined £150, and ordered to pay costs of £125 and a victim surcharge of £20.
