A VETERAN runner from Dinton thanked staff at Salisbury District Hospital’s spinal unit for helping him run again by handing over a cheque for £1,511.
Gordon Wiltshire, 77, was injured in an accident at work three years ago and was left unable to run for his club, city of Salisbury.
But following two operations, Mr Wiltshire back to competing, and took on last Sunday’s Eastleigh 10k in 61 mins 19 secs to raise funds for the hospital’s Stars Appeal.
“I’m not the kind of person to give up,” he said.
“It was a slow time as I’ve been out for a while, but I’ve been building my speed up gradually. I usually finish 10ks in under 45 minutes.”
Mr Wiltshire, who runs on average 25 miles a week, reached his fundraising total with the help of his neighbours. “People in the village have been very generous by helping me raise such a large amount of money,” he said.
