PROSPECTIVE students at the new Salisbury Sixth Form College got the chance to learn more at an open day on Saturday.

More than 250 people toured the facilities at Wiltshire College Salisbury, which will be the sixth form college’s temporary home until a new purpose-built campus opens around the corner in Tollgate Road in 2015.

Principal Simon Firth gave a presentation and revealed early plans for the permanent building before groups viewed the site to see where the new college will be built.

Students also had the chance to meet newly recruited teaching staff and hear more about the subjects on offer and life at the new college, due to open in September.

“This is a busy and productive time for us as we move into our final stages before opening in September,” said Neil Owen, chairman of governors for the new college.

“We will shortly receive our funding agreement from the Department for Education and we are really seeing the college come into shape with the appointment of outstanding teachers and excellent facilities at Wiltshire College for our first year.”

Mr Firth added: “We are committed to ensuring that Salisbury Sixth Form College is outstanding from the start, and I was delighted to see so many parents and students at our open day on Saturday. I believe they have come away feeling both confident and impressed with our offer for September.”
