YOUNGSTERS at Mere School embarked on a bear hunt recently with help from the local police.

Reception class children received a letter from Felicity the Phoneme Fairy in the morning asking who was missing from their classroom and they soon realised Fraser bear was nowhere to be found.

They set off to hunt for clues with magnifying glasses and they designed missing posters with a description of Fraser and a drawing to help identify him.

The posters were pinned up around the school, which was buzzing at break times as all the older children joined the hunt.

Finally, a set of clues directed the children to a police role play, and then to the school office.

There was relief all round as Fraser was found safe and well, with a letter from the police explaining that they had been working with police dogs to help track him down.

Headteacher Catriona Williamson said: “With lessons like these, it’s no surprise that the children love coming to school – and this translates into excellent progress and achievement from the very start.”
