A SALISBURY volunteer has been honoured for 25 years’ of service looking after elderly people.

Bridget Watson has been volunteering at Bemerton Lodge every week since 1989, donating her time to helping with activities, serving meals and spending time chatting with residents.

The care home is owned by the Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT), which invited 150 volunteers from their 19 homes across Wiltshire to a volunteers’ day to show their appreciation for their dedication.

Karen Johnson, OSJCT Wiltshire volunteer and activities manager, said: “People like Bridget, who has spent thousands of hours at one of our homes, provide our residents with the most meaningful and priceless gift of all – their time and compassion.

“We look forward to Volunteers’ Day because it’s the trust’s chance to formally thank the kind men and women who dedicate their personal time to enhancing the lives of our residents. We couldn’t be more grateful to these wonderful people and the important role they play.”
