Five Rivers sports hall to close for campus work
THE sports hall at Five Rivers Leisure Centre is to be closed for three months over the summer while work gets under way on developing Salisbury’s new community campus.
The start date for the builders has not yet been fixed but is likely to be in June.
Wiltshire Council has written to notify people who have booked events or use the hall for regular activities.
“Part of that continuing dialogue includes helping them find other locations wherever possible, or sometimes suspending the regular booking while the refurbishment work is carried out,” said a council spokesman.
Work on the hall will include a new roof.
The council says it is carrying out detailed planning with contractors Rydon to keep disruption to a minimum.
“We are confident that other facilities at Five Rivers will remain available during the campus construction, but where disruption is likely to occur – for example, temporarily relocating the gym to another part of the site – we will ensure users are notified as early as possible.
“When it opens in autumn 2015, the Salisbury Campus will provide a wide range of services in an easy-to-access location, placing customers and their needs at the heart of future plans.”
The completed campus will include facilities for young people to replace Grosvenor House, for people with learning disabilities, and a base for the police.
Rydon’s regional director Paul Barber promised that the firm would be “considerate contractors” and “good neighbours throughout the construction phase”.
