A HOTEL makeover has brought a giant windfall for Salisbury Hospice.

The Best Western Red Lion in Milford Street is replacing all the televisions in its 51 bedrooms as part of a larger refurbishment programme, which includes adding nine more rooms.

General manager Mark Bramley explained: “Guests are asking for 40 to 50-inch TVs and we only have 2-inch flat screens, so we thought we would donate them to the hospice.

“They’re not old at all, so they can either use them or sell them to raise funds.”

Hospice fundraiser John Munro received the first consignment on Monday.

He said: “This is absolutely fabulous for us.

“It’s great to have a local company supporting us, which is something we really need to build on.

“They have also given us a huge amount of furniture – chairs, tables, sofas. We’ll use what we can and sell the rest through our shop or online, and we think we’ll raise in excess of £3,000.”

Over the years the hotel, which changed hands in February, has built up close links with the hospice charity, putting out collection boxes and donating dinners as raffle prizes.

Mr Bramley said: “You can safely say that everyone knows someone who has had cancer, and the more we can do to help people through this horrible time, the better.”
