WILTSHIRE Council says it will try to find new roles for staff affected by the three-month closure of the sports hall at Five Rivers Leisure Centre in Salisbury.
A report, recommended for approval by the council’s staffing committee, suggests employees should be found other suitable roles while work to on a community campus for the city is carried out.
And they will continue to be paid for up to 26 weeks even if no alternative job can be found for them.
The council says it is keen to retain its employees but staff must be flexible and prepared to work in other suitable roles while building work is under way.
The sports hall will be closed for about 12 weeks while a new roof is built.
The work is expected to start in June and will be carried out by contractor Rydon.
The swimming pool is unlikely to be affected but the gym will be temporarily be relocated and it is not yet known what will happen to the café.
Sports clubs and community groups that use the sports hall are being helped to find other venues in Salisbury.
The staffing policy committee will meet next Wednesday to discuss the report.
