A NEW headteacher has been appointed at a Salisbury secondary school.

Rachel Ridley has accepted the position of headteacher at St Joseph’s School.

Chairman of governors Paul Hooper said: "We are delighted that Rachel has accepted the position of headteacher. “Throughout the interview process she impressed everyone involved with her extensive educational knowledge, leadership skills, commitment to high achievement and the clarity of her vision for the future of St Joseph’s.

“We agreed unanimously that Rachel stood out as the right person to build on the school's achievements and take the school forwards in its aim to provide an outstanding education for the young people of Salisbury and the surrounding areas."

Mrs Ridley previously held the position of deputy headteacher at the school and takes over from Paul Hughes who moved onto a new school elsewhere in the County last summer.
