TWO Salisbury Sea Cadets are in France this week and will be leading a parade to commemorate the D-Day landings.
Royal Marine Cadet Lance Corporal Gregor Anderson and Sea Cadet Leading Cadet James Twomey were chosen to represent Salisbury Sea Cadet Unit at the 70th anniversary event in Port en Bessin-Huppain, where Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy in June 1944.
They will be joining other sea cadets in France and the mayor of Port en Bessin- Huppain has asked them to lead the parade through the town and then take part at the monument with surviving veterans from 47 Commando Royal Marines and their families.
The 17-year-olds travelled to France on Monday with Sgt Fritz Macaulay, and have been visiting sites and museums in the area, such as the US Paratrooper memorial at Point du Hoc where the US Rangers scaled the cliffs, Pegasus Bridge and American, German and British war cemeteries.
They could even be rubbing shoulders with the likes of the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh and other heads of state, including President Barack Obama.
