WILTSHIRE Fire & Rescue says it coped with 20 incidents during a 24-hour strike by members of the Fire Brigades’ Union yesterday.
The incidents included an out of control bonfire, an automatic fire alarm and rescuing someone trapped in their car in Salisbury and a false alarm about a smell of gas in Barford St Martin.
Crews at ten of Wiltshire’s 24 fire stations were unavailable to respond to incidents during the strike, but the service had contingency plans in place to maintain cover across the county using on-call firefighters and alternative locations.
The strike lasted from 9am on Thursday and all crews returned to duty at 9am today. Further industrial action is planned from 10am to 5pm on June 21.
