Drug and alcohol service offering support before England World Cup kick-off

A DRUG and alcohol service will be providing support on Salisbury’s streets tonight in the lead up to England’s first World Cup match.

The Wiltshire Substance Misuse Service is an integrated drug and alcohol service providing a range of interventions across the county which works with anyone over 18 concerned about their drug or alcohol use.

Staff will be taking out their Roving Recovery Vehicle (RRV) tonight from 8pm until 11pm, when England’s match with Italy kicks off, engaging with the public about the harm of alcohol misuse and information about the service they provide.

Operations manager Natalie Travis said: “This event is taking place in partnership with a number of local agencies in light of the World Cup and some of the anticipated increased alcohol consumption that is likely to be seen during this time.

“We want to engage with the public about safer drinking levels and raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and understanding the units consumed on a night out. Support is there for people who need it and we hope to raise awareness of our service as well as make the public aware of other services such as domestic violence support and support for families and carers of individuals misusing drugs or alcohol.”
