DOOR-TO-DOOR collections of green garden waste could be stopped over the winter months as part of a Wiltshire Council drive to save money.

Options are being prepared for a countywide public consultation exercise.

Current suggestions are that the service could be suspended for either three or five months during its quietest period of the year, or that charging could be reintroduced.

Currently 95 per cent of garden waste is collected outside the three-month period around Christmas.

The council cannot say how much any of these options would save. Clearly, if there is a return to charging, it will depend on how many residents take up the option.
