SALISBURY charity Alabaré is looking for private landlords in Wiltshire who would welcome young people moving out of supported accommodation into their properties.

The charity says all the young people in question have a proven track record in maintaining tenancies and will have completed Alabaré’s home and money tenancy programme, which will prepare them for life as a self-sufficient private tenant.

It is estimated that each year at least 80,000 young people across the UK experience some form of homelessness.

Alabaré works to support young people aged between 16 and 25 who are homeless, facing homelessness, are care leavers, young mothers, or are just in need of advice.

The charity currently supports young people at six properties in Wiltshire and now needs to find more private landlords who are willing to offer them the next step.

Vanessa Brown, Alabaré’s care and support manager for young people said: “We understand that landlords are often unwilling to rent to young people, especially if they have come from tough beginnings, but we have a proven track record with private landlords and despite the age of our service users, we do not anticipate any issues with their tenancies.

“We provide them with full support to move on and will liaise with their new landlord to facilitate a smooth transition into independence.” Alabaré is also looking for landlords who will rent out properties for use as fully supported accommodation. These properties would be staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
