NURSES from Julia’s House hospice have been thrilled by the response they have received from Wiltshire residents and businesses after appealing for a ‘hot desk’ to work from in central Salisbury.

A school office, a doctor’s surgery, local business premises and even a spare bedroom in someone’s home have been offered up for use by the care team. The children’s hospice charity, which is based near Poole in Dorset, offers home-based respite care for parents of life-limited children in south Wiltshire. Many of the families it supports live in the city.

But with no local base to work from, nurses have to sit in their cars or cafes to fill out paperwork and check emails between community care sessions.

“Having somewhere to go with a desk, a phone and wi-fi will be absolutely wonderful,” said team nurse Hannah Ayles. “We have been overwhelmed by the number of kind offers we have received. We are really grateful to everyone for thinking of us and will be in touch as soon as possible.”

Julia’s House will be holding its first Housemates session, a social gathering for the Wiltshire families it supports, in Salisbury later this month.
