PUPILS from Appleford School in Shrewton took to the saddle in an epic cycling challenge.

The group of 30 youngsters, aged from seven to 14, pedal-powered their way from Devizes to Westminster in the four-day event, camping by the Kennet and Avon Canal and the Thames along the way.

They were met at the finish line outside the Palace of Westminster by fellow pupils, staff and parents, ready to be taken around the House of Commons and the parliamentary lobbies by Salisbury MP John Glen.

Teacher Mark Ball said: “I’m so proud of the children; they all excelled themselves in this year’s challenge and should be proud of their amazing achievement.”

Mr Glen said: “It was clear all the pupils enjoyed the experience, and the whole school showed real community spirit in coming together to celebrate.

“I hope the opportunity to see the House of Commons itself really inspired the pupils, and I look forward to visiting the thriving Appleford School community in the next few months.”
