A DOG found tied up outside the Dogs Trust rehoming centre in Newton Tony is looking for a new home.

The seven-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier was found abandoned on the morning of the centre’s open day.

He was taken in by the Dogs Trust team and after inspection by the vets, it was discovered he is suffering from cataracts, which have left him partially blind.

He is now undergoing further tests to assess the severity of the condition.

As he was found at the centre during the annual Festival of Fidos event which helped to promote responsible dog ownership, staff have named him Fido and they are hoping a dog lover will be able to give him a forever home.

Lucy Hooper, supporter relations officer, said: “Owning a dog is a huge responsibility and one that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Our centre looks after hundreds of unwanted dogs each year but we were still so shocked to see that someone could just abandon a dog in this way.

"Luckily, Fido was quickly spotted by staff and, after some TLC, he is already getting back to his bouncy self.”

Fido is a friendly dog who gets on well with other dogs, loves his toys and enjoys a good game of fetch.

He is happiest when on walks so would like an active owner who he can enjoy plenty of outdoor playtime with.

“While we are unsure why Fido ended up on our doorstep, we hope he can now find the ‘furry tail’ ending he well and truly deserves,” said Ms Hooper.
