A LOCAL MP is braced for a busy few days as he leads the UK’s commemoration of the outbreak of the First World War.
Andrew Murrison, who is MP for South West Wiltshire, has been the Prime Minister’s Special Representative for the Centenary since September 2011.
Mr Murrison will be attending a commemorative service in Glasgow on Monday to mark the day Britain entered the war before travelling to a Commonwealth war cemetery in Belgium with senior cabinet colleagues.
Mr Murrison said: “The sheer scale of the Great War demands pause for reflection at the beginning of a centenary like no other.
“A four-year anniversary is a marathon not a sprint but the first day is vital. It will set the tone and encourage people to explore the causes, conduct and consequences of a series of events that continue to shape our world today.”
